Grissom Math Tournament

About The Tournament

The Grissom High School Mathematics Team cordially invites you and your students to participate in the Thirtieth Annual Grissom Mathematics Tournament to be held at Grissom High School in Huntsville, AL

There will be five levels of competition: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and Comprehensive. Each school may enter as many students in each level as desired. All students will participate in both the written exam and the ciphering competition! To compete at the Comprehensive level, students may be currently enrolled in any mathematics course. For all other levels, students must be currently enrolled in or have completed the mathematics course at that level and cannot be enrolled in or have completed a higher level mathematics course.

The individual test consists of 25 multiple-choice questions and 3 tie-breakers. The score will be eight times the number of correct answers minus twice the number of incorrect answers. (Doubles the test score to keep ciphering scores closer to 20% of the total team score.) All students will be given a packet of 12 pre-printed ciphering questions plus a sample. The time limit for each question is 2 minutes. Correct answers submitted in the first 30 seconds will receive 5 points, correct answers submitted in the next 45 seconds will receive 3 points, and correct answers in the last 45 seconds will receive 1 point. The school score for each level will consist of the top four test scores from each school added to the top four ciphering scores.

Please register online at www.grissommath.org/ghstournament or by mail before January 11th.

We are planning to mail pre-printed name tags with student ID numbers to reduce errors and help us create the database ahead of time. Please email me at cynthia.rodgers@hsv-k12.org if you are planning to register so we can send you the student id form. If you will copy your roster into the form and email it back, we can start working on name tags. Changes can be made later if necessary.

Confirmation of your registration information and your tournament packet (including pre-printed name tags with student id numbers) will be mailed to the school address submitted on the online registration form. Before you submit your information, print two copies of the completed registration form. Keep one copy for your records and enclose the second copy with your payment. Checks should be made payable to Grissom High School, and payment should be sent to:
