Grissom Math Stars

GMS is a highschool student run math competition for 4th-8th graders, hosted by Grissom Math Team.

Individual Tests

Students will be given 30 minutes to solve a free response test. Each test consists of 20 questions. Students will compete in their grade level. They may choose to compete in a higher level, if they desire. Scoring is one point for each correct answer; there is no penalty for guessing. The top 15 scorers will receive plaques. Certificates will be sent to schools to be awarded to additional individual winners.

Team Tests

A student may compete in only one level that is equivalent to or greater than their grade level. Their team level does not have to match their individual level.

For the team test, all students competing in the same level will work together on the same test. There is not a limit for the number of students competing on the team test from the same school. The problems on the team test are free response and calculators are not permitted. The team of students will be given 30 minutes. Scoring is one point for each correct answer; there is no penalty for guessing.

Scoring and Awards

Individual awards will be awarded based upon the Individual Test.

Team awards will be given based upon the team test score only.
